What are the implications of GM Mustard?  Will it open the floodgates to other GM crops?  Will it contaminate our environment beyond reversal? Come with all your questions! Are you aware that the GM Mustard variety being proposed by the Delhi University is Herbicide Tolerant?  That directly translates to use of more poison in the soil, and eventually, more poisoned food for us? Do we pay taxes to our Govt to run Universities that will eventually poison us?   What is the Govt's stand on this?  How informed is the Govt really?  How transparent has the process of approval by GEAC been so far?  Are they running an ulterior agenda by hiding the real facts?  Does the Govt know they are going to poison their own citizens by the introduction of GMOs? What damage will the introduction of GM crops cause to the rest of the Ecosystem?  Is the damage reversible, or will we be doomed forever? She also works with Sangtin Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (SKMS) in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, visiting them 2-3 times a year, supporting them in their current activities and helping expand their work in health and agriculture. We are happy to invite you to our 5^th year of BEEJOTSAV at Nagpur from 7^th to 9^th April 2017, a carnival of organic food, foodgrains, spices and the celebration of the sustainable, eco-friendly life style.

We, at BEEJOTSAV, are a varied group of organic farmers, seed savers, urban farmers and consumers who have been showcasing organic food for four years. We link grass roots farmers and the urban consumer.

We believe that safe, chemical-free food is the right of every citizen and our movement is a step towards making it available to the urban consumer.

We invite you to exhibit your products by taking a stall.

ग्राम सेवा मंडल, वर्धा के पूनी संयंत्र बदलने के लिये आर्थिक सहयोगका आवाहन!

प्रिय मित्र,

आप जानते ही होंगे की १९३४ सााल में विनोबा भावे स्थापित ग्राम सेवा मंडळ यह संस्था, स्थानीय कात्तिनों, बुनकारों, रंगरेजों की मदद से बढीया कपडा बनाने की प्रक्रिया में लगी हुई है. हमें यह बताते हुए ख़ुशी हो रही है की अब हमारे यहां देसी कपास (non GM) से कपडा बनाने की प्रक्रिया में तेजी आयी है. लेकीन इसमें कुछ मुश्किलें भी खडी हुई है, जिसके बारे में हमें विश्वास है की वे आपकी मदद से सुलझायी जा सकेगी. हमारी मुख्य दिक्कत पुनी बनाने की मशीनें पुरानी होने की वजह से है उन्हें बेहतर उत्पादन के लिए बदलना जरुरी हो गया है. ये मशिनें बदलने से कपास से कपडा बनाने की प्रक्रिया ज्यादा सक्षमतासे स्थानीय तौर पर होने लगेगी.

ग्राम सेवा मंडल में कताई पूर्व विभाग के सक्षमीकरण से कैसे मदद होगी?

नीचे दी गयी आकृती से कपास से कपडा बनाने की प्रक्रिया का पता चलता है. इसमे हम समझ सकते है की कताईपूर्व विभाग (जिससे हमें पुनी मिलती है) सूत प्राप्त करने  में कितना महत्वपूर्ण है.

• अभी किसान GM (बीटी)कपास के बिजोंपर अवलंबित है. जो विशैला तंत्रज्ञान है. देसी, non GM कपास के बीज के इस्तमाल से किसानोन की स्थिती सुधारने में मदद होगी. हम महसूस करते है की ऐसे कपास से कपडा बनणे की प्रक्रिया खेती में शाश्वतता लाने और स्थानीय तौरपर स्वावलंबी बनणे में मददरूप होगी.
• छोटे धागे के देसी कपास से पूनी बनाने के लिए यह मशीने उपयुक्त है। विदर्भ के स्थानीय प्रजातीयोंसे ४० अंक तक का  सूत बनाना संभव है. किंतु उसके लिये आवश्यक कताईपूर्व विभाग यहां नहीं है. सभी स्थानीय खादी निर्माता महाराष्ट्र से बाहर के केंद्रीय पुनी प्लांट पर अवलंबित है. इस कारण शुद्ध और अच्छी गुणवत्तापूर्ण पूनी समयपर मिल नाही पाती. बढिया सूत और कपडा मिलना इस कारण मुश्कील हो जाता है.
• विदर्भ महाराष्ट्र का सबसे ज्यादा कपास पैदा करनेवाला प्रदेश है. लेकीन फिर भी कपास उत्पादक किसान कमा नहीं पाते है. शायद इसलिये की, किसान बाजारभावपर कपास बेचने मजबूर है. यदी किसान कपास का अंतिम उत्पाद कपडा स्वयं बनाकर सीधे ग्राहक को बेच पाये तो शायद ज्यादा कामा पाये. यह तभी संभव है जब स्थानीय कपास उसी परिसरमें पुनी बनने के लिये इस्तेमाल किया जा सके. एक बार पूनी स्थानीय तौरपर बनने लग जाये तो. गांव के स्तरपर कातना और बुनना संभव हो सकेगा.

अत: यदि कताईपूर्व विभाग हमारे पास हो तो वह इन सबके लिये फायदेमंद होगा- १)देशी non GM कपास उगानेवाले किसान २) वे लोक जो स्थानीय तौरपर सूत और कपडे का उत्पादन कर रहे है ३) वे ग्राहक जिन्हे हम पर्यावरणीय, आर्थिक और शाश्वत ढंग से कपडे की आपूर्ति कर पायेंगे.

अत: हम आपकी मदद चाहते है- कताईपूर्व  प्रक्रिया की- रेचाई, धुनाई और पूनी बनाने की पूरी मशिनरी खरीदने के लिये. २७० किसान, ३५५ कत्तीने और २४० बुनकरों के परिवारोंको ये मशीन खरीदने से पुरे साल भर फायदा होते रहेगा. ये मशीने खरीदने करीब २० लाख रुपये आवश्यक है. आपके सहभाग की किसी भी रकम का स्वागत है!

सुती कपडा एक तरीका मात्र नहीं है,  वह तो धून के उमंग के साथ बीज बोते, पौधे बढाने, सूत कातने और बुनने की बात है. वह हमारे जीवन और पर्यावरण पर कई तरीकोंसे असर करती है. आज अच्छे स्वास्थ और जीवन के लिये ‘स्लो – फूड’ (धीमा अन्न) (प्राकृतिक, स्थानीय और सेंद्रिय) का नारा दिया जाता है. वैसे ही ‘स्लो क्लोथ’ (धीमा कपडा) भी आवश्यक है.

आपकी छोटीसी मदद हमे स्थानीय तौरपर इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर मजबूत करने और गांव स्तरपर स्वावलंबी होने का लंबा रास्ता चलने में सहायता करेगी. अनेकोंको पर्यावरणीय और समग्रता से सुरक्षित कपडा इससे प्राप्त हो सकेगा.
